Data Analytics Option(Special Program)

Acadia is pleased to begin offering program options in Data Analytics in 2016.  All programs ensure the prerequisites in mathematics and statistics, computer programming,  data structures and database.  They also feature courses in statistical modeling, machine learning, data mining and data visualization. 

 

Data Analytics Option for BCS 

In accordance with the required courses for BCS, students must take: 

  1. MATH 2223 or 2243 or 2253
  2. 6h of MATH 3233, MATH 3283, and MATH 3293
  3. 12h of COMP 3303, COMP 3513, COMP 3503, COMP 3923 (Data Visualization), COMP 4613, or COMP 4923 (Machine Learning)
  4. 12h of COMP 2853, ECON 1013, ECON 1023, BUSI 1013, BUSI 2013, BUSI 2513, BUSI 2803, BUSI 3063
  5.   The Comp 4993 Project must focus on a Data Analytics topic. 

 

Data Analytics Option for BCSH 

In accordance with the required courses for BCSH, students must take: 

  1. 6h of MATH 3233, MATH 3283, and MATH 3293
  2. 12h of COMP 3303, COMP 3513, COMP 3503, COMP 3923 (Data Visualization), COMP 4613, or COMP 4923 (Machine Learning)
  3. 12h of COMP 2853, ECON 1013, ECON 1023, BUSI 1013, BUSI 2013, BUSI 2513, BUSI 2803, BUSI 3063
  4. the COMP 4996 Thesis must focus on a Data Analytics topic 
  5. NOTE: Credit can only be obtained for one of COMP 2513 or COMP 2853

 

Data Science Option for BSc and BScH

  1. 6h from Math 1313, 1323, 1333, 1413, or 6h from Math 2213, 2223, 2233, 2243  (6h)
  2. Comp 1113, 1123, 2113   (9h)
  3. and one of
    • MATH 3233, MATH 3293, plus 6h from MATH 3283, MATH 3603, MATH 3633, MATH 4223, MATH 4233 (12h);
    • COMP 3503, plus 9h from COMP 2853, COMP 3753, COMP 3923 (Data Visualization), one of which may be substituted for another related course (with permission of the School) (12h); or
    • MATH 3233, COMP 3503, 3h from MATH 3283, MATH 3603, MATH 3633, MATH 4223, MATH 4233, and 3h from COMP 2853, COMP 3573, COMP 3923 (12h)

Graduation Requirements

In addition to the program requirements outlined above, a minimum program GPA of 2.00 is required to graduate. The following courses may not count towards a degree in computer science: APSC 1413, ECON 2613, ECON 2623, MATH 1613, or any 1800- or 2800-level Computer Science course (with the exception of COMP 2853, which may be used as an elective course only)
