PROGENY – A LOCAL SOFTWARE COMPANY WITH CUSTOMERS IN FIFTY COUNTRIES

PIERRE CLOUTHIER

Abstract

Progeny Genealogy Inc. develops and distributes graphics software to genealogists in over fifty countries. Progeny Genealogy was founded in 1995, and has partnered with Ancestry.com, Corel, Mindscape, The Learning Company, Individual Software, and the LDS Church. Our mission is to help our customers tell the story of their family.

Progeny uses vector graphics to display family relationships. Customers use our software to print large, innovative and unique charts for family reunions. We have developed algorithms to generate embroidery files, computer-controlled engraving, timeline-based charts, 3D representation of family trees, and family history maps with automatic geo-coding of misspelled place names.

Our charting technology uses REST/HTTP to access on-line databases such as FamilySearch, MyHeritage, Geni and OneGreatFamily, where millions of genealogists collaborate to share research.

Our Website wallcharts.com, written in JavaScript, provides a simple interface to build family trees, and connects to a server hosted on Amazon EC2 to create & deliver charts in PDF or JPG format. wallcharts.com is accessible to iOS, Android, OS X, Linux and Windows.
