Disrupting Surveillance
Computer Vision Applications to Automate Video Security Systems
Phil Munz
Abstract
Surveillance cameras are one of the most underutilized assets. Surveillance systems in high camera count, critical infrastructure locations running 24/7 are either used for little more than retrospective analysis (triaging an event well after it has occurred); or are viewed on screens several at a time by operators prone to distraction and error. The technology exists to assist security personnel and scale notifications of events or objects of interest. In this presentation I will introduce the industry and show off several interesting applications using computer vision to solve real-world problems.
About the Presenter
Phil is a senior manager of data analytics for Patriot One Technology’s PATSCAN VRS™ system and was an instructor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Acadia from 2013-2016. He holds a masters in applied mathematics, and a masters in statistics, and has applied his skill set to everything from computer vision to modelling forest fires and zombie outbreaks (though not all at the same time).
