BCS - Bachelor of Computer Science

Description:

The BCS degree is a 4-year degree meant to meet and exceed CIPS and ACM standards for undergraduate programs by providing a mix of computational theory, systems and architecture knowledge, problem solving, systems analysis and application development skills and experience. The degree requires that all core courses (63 of 120 hrs; 3 hrs = a 1 term course) be completed with C- or better and a CGPA of 2.0. The on-going development of interpersonal, communication, team work, project management and entrepreneurial skills are important elements of many courses. With 7 (21 hrs) electives available, a student is able to build her/his degree in computer science around other areas of science, arts and/or professional studies at Acadia.

Curriculum

  1. CS courses:
    Comp 1113, 1123, 2103, 2113, 2203, 2213, 2663, 2903, 3343, 3403, 3613, 3703, 3713, 3753, 4983, and Math 1413 or 1313, and 1323 or 1333, each with C- or better (51h)
  2. 12h other Comp, each with C- or better
  3. Math 1013, 1023, 2233 each with C- or better (9h)
  4. 6h selected fron English, Art at the 1000-level, Classics, Comparative Religion, a single language other than English, History, Music (not applied, vocal, or intrumental methods, or practical studies) Philosophy, Theology (Theo 3013/23, Bibl 2013/23, Gree 3013/23), or Women's amd Gender Studies or Comm 1213 and 1223 (6h)
  5. 9h of courses from the Faculty of Arts (not Econ 2613, 2623, or Soci 3103)
  6. 12h from the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science (not mathematics or computer science) or from the School of Business Administration
  7. The remaining 21h are electives with at most 15h in Comp (21h)
  8. A minimum CGPA of 2.00 is required to be eligible to graduate
